On Monday 28th March 2016, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the foundation of Valletta, European Walled Towns president Joe Spiteri, joined other representatives from the central government, and local organisations, led by the Mayor, Profs. Alexiei Dingli, and attended a wreath laying ceremony and a thanks giving mass, held by the Valletta Local Council, to commemorate such an important event.
Indeed, it was a fitting event to pay tribute to the City built by gentlemen for gentlemen.
Those present had also the opportunity to visit the church of Our Lady of Victories, where the foundation stone of Valletta was laid 450 years ago. An excellent restoration process of the paintings of the church, was recently concluded. The president congratulated the chairperson of Din L-Art Helwa, a National Trust of Malta and a non governmental organisation, to safeguard the historic, artistic and natural heritage of Malta, for their initiative to carry out such an excellent work, which will add to the historic and cultural richness of Valletta.
